Mine prefers the crap on the bed to the bed itself!! If there is one non-bed item put on the bed of moderate softness and cat-butt sensation pleasing (paper, my clothing, sheets, etc.), that is where she will sleep. She is SUCH a goof!

I'd say it was a black cat thing, but I think non-black cat parents would disagree... ;-)
