QotD: My Favorite Fictional Father
TV, books, movies: Who's your favorite fictional father?
TV seems to have more worthwhile fathers than movies. Probably because television, with its novelistic, episodic format, is better suited for telling stories about families.
I always liked Tom Irwin as Angela's father on My So-Called Life.
Pleasantly dorky, talented, but with a faint veneer of coolness (a former Deadhead, he fixed the roof while listening to "Althea") and also quite a talented cook. He was a man who could let his wife be the bread-winner yet not seem like a leach. Yes, he was sorely tempted to stray, but he never actually did in the course of the show.
Some other TV fathers I admire: Homer Simpson, Tony Soprano, Keith Mars, Admiral Wililam "Bill" Adama
