The Thievery Corporation live at the 9:30 Club

I just bought a ticket to see "The Thievery Corporation" at Washington DC's 9:30 Club on 12/21. This isn't the kind of music I'd normally see live, but my cousin and her husband are going, so I thought it would be fun. Plus I've always wanted to go to the 9:30 Club. I've heard good things about it–the new one, that is; apparently the old one was a dump. I have an amazing bootleg from GBV's 2004 "Electrifying Conclusion" tour that was recorded there.

Anyone on Vox know the Thievery Corporation's music/seen them live? Have I made a tragic blunder? Or a sweet decision? You tell me.

the old one was fuckin' great. don't believe the hype.

but Thievery playing in our hometown should be great - a little scene-y, prolly, but great. And all of us who loved our old 9:30, warts and all, will tell you the new one is crap.

Tangentially, I heard they got kicked out of Mezzanine for smokin up backstage.

Agree with Harold. I've been to both and the old 9:30, while something of a shithole, was bomb. As I recall, the new one is nice as well, although when I was there, the paint on the walls was still fresh, so who knows what it's like now...

Thanks everyone for their spirited defense of the old 9:30 Club. I don't actually know anything about it; I informed my impression purely on one statement Robert Pollard made during the last GBV show there. But he was probably drunk at the time.
