Have you bought any concert tickets this year? What shows will you be going to?
Just last weekend I finally dealt and bought tickets to the following shows:
* Drive-By Truckers at the Mezzanine 2/14
* Built To Spill @ the Fillmore (can't remember the date)
* Mountain Goats at the Bottom of the Hill (3/2) This will be an all-ages afternoon show, which should be interesting. I believe it's part of Noise Pop.
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray.
What an excellent QotD.
There are too many to mention. Or are there? Yes, yes there are.
The Clash "Police & Thieves" (not sure who wrote this originally... Buckaroo would know)
Billy Idol "To be a Lover" (another old reggae song)
Led Zeppelin's first two albums
Rush "Seven and Seven Is" (Love, led by Arthur Lee, who just died)
Dinosaur Jr. "Quicksand" (David Bowie)
Tool "Stranglehold" (originally by Ted Nugent, not sure a studio version was ever released.)
Tool "No Quarter" (Led Zeppelin, a very hard band to cover)
Built To Spill "Virginia Reel Around the Fountain"
Queens of the Stone Age "Never Say Never" (Romeo Void)
Run DMC "Walk This Way" (Aerosmith)
Foo Fighters "Darling Nikki" (Prince)
Foo Fighters "Baker Street' (Gerry Rafferty)
That's just the beginning.. I'll have to add more later.
Indie rock legends Built To Spill begin a four-night stand tonight at Slim's, and I will be there. This will be the sixth or seventh time I've seen them live-first time was in spring 2001, in the waning months of dotcom. They actually took a hiatus for a while, and even when they got back together, they took their sweet time getting a new album out. The wait was worth it, though, as "You In Reverse" is one of my favorite albums so far this year.
Particularly the band Built To Spill. Doug Martsch. BtS. Built to spill.
April 11th = a big day for new music. In addition to BtS and Eagles of Death Metal, Calexico has a new album (which apparently is a bit of a departure for them) as well as a remastered versions of some 80s Grateful Dead albums.
Speaking of the new Built To Spill, Pitchfork gave it a generally positive review.
According to Billboard.com. The album is being produced by Phil Eck, who produced many of Built To Spill's early works.
